Wow, 1898 Veuve Cliquot. Amazing that the Russians liked their champagne super sweet. It would be like drinking a sparkling Maneschewitz wine. I may have to put this book on my TBR pile.

I will have to check out that book. Champagne was also believed to be a cure for seasickness in the 19th century. This has always confused me because it never settles my stomach, but it must be because champagne was not the same bubbly that it is today. great post and a toast to champagne drinking!
